PINECREST SCHOOL PARTNERS WITH KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL TO HELP CHILDREN AT HOME AND ABROAD

K-Kids is the elementary school branch of Kiwanis International, an international community service organization dedicated to helping children worldwide.  Working under the auspices of a sponsoring Kiwanis Club and an adult advisor, K-Kids members learn to work cooperatively to identify and carry out community service projects.
Head of School Ms. McDermott, a long-time Kiwanis member, is the Pinecrest K-Kids Club advisor, and our club is proudly sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Tysons, Virginia.  K-Kids membership is open to students in Grades 2-6 and annual dues are $2.50 per student. K-Kids club members elect their own student officers and meet (with Ms. McDermott) once a week at lunchtime.  Throughout the school year, Pinecrest K-Kids participate in a variety of community service projects, such as:

  • Making dog toys for local animal shelters
  • Collecting hats for local children with cancer
  • Raising funds for good causes such as the Ronald McDonald House, Make-a-Wish Foundation or The Eliminate Project, a joint effort between Kiwanis International and UNICEF to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from the many countries still affected by this deadly disease
