We are so excited to announce that our private school in Annandale has won Best Private School and Best STEM Program in Family Magazine’s Best for Families 2019!
For more than 20 years, Washington FAMILY Magazine has been running their annual Best for FAMILIES survey. Each year, they ask their readers to vote for their favorite people, places and things to do in the Northern Virginia area. Thousands of online votes were submitted, and we are so honored to be recognized in two categories: Best Private Elementary School (winner) and Best STEM Program (runner-up)!
Pinecrest School is an award-winning, fully-accredited private school in Fairfax County, Virginia, serving children ages 3-12 in preschool through sixth grade. We are conveniently located inside the Beltway in Northern Virginia in Annandale.
In 2017, we celebrated our 60th year, having started as a preschool in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1957. We provide children with a progressive educational curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking skills, STEAM instruction and hands-on projects in small classes. We are a small school by design and believe that differentiated instruction is the norm. Our warm and nurturing social and emotional environment gives children the caring support necessary to challenge themselves with confidence. We encourage parents and children to form a close partnership, built on mutual trust, with our teachers and Head of School. We teach mindfulness strategies to help children learn to relax their bodies and focus their minds. Our campus comprises two modern buildings, a playground and outdoor areas, giving children plenty of kid-friendly spaces to move, learn and play.

The school strives to reinforce basic values such as honesty, integrity, respect for others and an appreciation for diversity. We prioritize community and pride ourselves on our diverse and inclusive community.
Students at Pinecrest School develop strong academic skills and a strong sense of self. They problem solve, think critically and communicate clearly within a diverse and engaging learning environment. Our students take pride in their work, are developing integrity and are building cultural competence through awareness of perspectives that may differ from their own. Pinecrest School students are emerging as leaders, lifelong learners and contributors to the world around them.
We also have an award-winning summer camp program – Pinecrest Pavilion – that serves children ages 4-12 with a variety of multi-age, creative, theme-based classes.
There is currently limited space is available in 2019-20 for preschool ages 3 and 4 and in grades 1-6, and space is still available in some camp classes for this summer as well. Summer camp runs through August 16 and the 2019-20 school year begins on August 26.
